16-week group: Wednesdays 5:30–7:30 pm, Wellington CBD
Group therapy is learning about yourself and others while co-creating meaning and growth. When people in day-to-day life ask, “How are you?”, they often mean “Are you capable of the task at hand?” In a therapeutic environment, people genuinely want to know how you are. Group therapy is a potent and effective form of therapy and, generally, people who have participated in group therapy are impressed by the growth they achieve.
People have different personalities and backgrounds, and they look at situations in different ways. By seeing how other people tackle problems and make positive changes, you can discover a new range of strategies or be reminded of previous ones for facing your concerns.
Group therapy provides a contained way of seeing ourselves, others, and how we interact. As a form of group therapy, transactional analysis focuses on the analysis of transactions between people. Therapy group members often form deep connections with each other, including the group therapist, and are a tangible source of inspiration for each other. You will be affected by other people and, in turn, will affect others. Talking and listening to others helps you put your reality in perspective. Furthermore, it can be a relief to hear others reveal what they’ve been through and what they’re going through, to share your experiences, and to understand you’re not alone.
Group therapy is a safe space for exploring and improving interpersonal communication, accepting loss and working through grief, accessing greater emotional wellness, and, where appropriate, setting goals.
